My grandfather was a Union Lighterage skipper, as was my dad. So good to see the listings of all the tugs I spent summers on as a boy. Grandad was on the Banco, and dad had Trinco, then Lectro, then Hembo until he retired.

Thanks for an excellent site. I'm still reasearching the company, its tugs and its people. Anyone with any information, photos or memories, please get in touch.

The Knocker White - My Grandfather, Bill Quelch was the engineer who converted her from Steam to Diesel and my Mum who would have been about 8 at the time was on her maiden voyage in 1960. He worked on the river all his life and was working for Woods River Boats who ran the Silver Fleet when he sadly passed away in 1985. How wonderful that part of him lives on in this beautiful Tug Boat

Hi, to all Thames, Lightermen and Tugmen.

Can anyone help me with the crew members of the General VII , both survivors and lost during the collision with the Rorahead in 1985.

My old man, also Arthur (died 2001). always told me this was his favourite of the T & G fleet, and I was able to present him with my watercolour of the vessel before his passing, and would now like to add the complete history of the vessel to the painting.

Thanks in advance Arthur LeBeau (the 5th) generation

ARTHUR I HAVE REPLIED BY E-MAIL.

I am looking for information on R&JH Rea Ltd -- what they did, company history etc. Can anyone help?

NICK

I WOULD SUGGEST A COPY OF THE BOOK CORY TOWAGE LTD BY W J HARVEY WOULD BE A GOOD STARTING POINT. THERE IS A BRIEF COMPANY HISTORY AND PHOTOS AND DESCRIPTIONS OF MANY OF THEIR TUGS. THE BOOK IS STILL AVAILABLE TO PURCHASE FROM THE WORLD SHIP SOCIETY LIBRARY IN CHATHAM DOCKYARD.

My Uncle died in the Hawkstone disaster in 1958. His name was Clifford Marks (Sonny to his family). I have been trying to get more information re this event as there is no one of his generation still alive for me ask. This is the first place I have seen that has any detail of the Tug.

Does anyone recognise his name or have any knowledge of the incident?
